“Cutaneous leishmaniasis can be treated up to 90 percent within two weeks by using this topical ointment,” said Seyed Mehdi Rezayat, the head of the working group of the Nanotechnology Development Headquarters of the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy.

He also underlined existence of over 320 companies active in the field of nanotechnology, and said, “So far, we have produced more than 1,200 products in the nanotechnology area.”

Rezayat referred to the noticeable growth in the domestic production of nano products, and said, “We have also witnessed growth in exports. We export our products to China and South Korea. Also, in the medical field, we have over 100 certified products manufactured by using nanotechnology."

In general, cutaneous leishmaniasis causes skin lesions which can persist for months, sometimes for years. The skin lesions usually develop within several weeks or months after the exposure but occasionally first appear years later (for example, in the context of trauma or immunosuppression).
