Iran-Made Nanosensors Capable of Detecting Heart Attack

TEHRAN (ANA)- Researchers at an Iranian knowledge-based company succeeded in designing and manufacturing nanosensors that are able to detect heart attacks.

The company is the first specialized accelerator in the field of sensor and biosensor production and design in the country, Mehdi Bordbar, a member of the specialized accelerator active in the field of biotechnology, said.

Nanosensors in medicinal research are fast emerging, particularly in heart ailments.

They are able to wirelessly convey the signal to physicians for rapid diagnosis and treatment. These sensors are less costly and can be used by individuals with the cardiac disease at all times.

“One of the sensors we developed is related to the rapid and simultaneous detection kits for cardiovascular diseases based on antibodies,” Bordbar said.

He referred to heart attacks as the main cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Myocardial infarction or heart attack occurs when the reduction or cessation of blood flow to a part of the heart causes damage to the heart muscle.

The most common symptom is pain or discomfort in the chest, which may appear in the shoulder, arm, back, and neck.

Bordbar pointed out that heart attacks often occur in the center or left side of the chest, and other symptoms can include shortness of breath, nausea, weakness, cold sweats, or fatigue.

No known methods guarantee a reliable diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction, especially in the early stages of the disease, he stressed.

“However, many studies have been carried out in recent years, and the results of these studies showed that early diagnosis of heart attack reduces mortality both in the early hours and in the later stages of the disease.”

Researchers succeeded in making sensors to detect heart attacks in people who are exposed to the disease in this regard, he said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Bordbar said receptors based on nanoparticles coded with antibodies were used in the sensor, which identifies three cardiac markers for when a person is exposed to a heart attack.

He also said that the diagnostic kit operates based on nanoparticles that are conjugated with antibodies.
