Iranian Company Locally Produces Laser Surface Measuring Device

TEHRAN (ANA)- The laser surface measuring device (laser profilemeter) which is used in various industries has been locally produced for the first time in Iran by a technological company.

According to a report by Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, the Iranian-made laser surface measuring device has the capability to measure the roughness of different surfaces with an accuracy of one micrometer and can be used in various industries, including the manufacturing of sensitive metal parts.

The laser profile measuring device examines the surfaces of different objects using laser triangulation technology. The system consists of a laser source, various optical devices and an imaging sensor.

The examined sample moves in one direction on the screen and the sensor moves perpendicularly to the sample on the other screen. This type of screen movement increases the accuracy of surface scanning, the report added.

It is very important to adjust the distance of the sensor from the surface as well as the number of steps to collect data from the surface. The data taken from the surface is analyzed with the help of software and a graph is designed of the roughness and height of the measured surface.

One of the most important advantages of a high-precision laser surface meter is its non-destructive performance for sensitive surfaces. Mechanical methods often have low accuracy and distort the surface of the sample, the vice presidency’s report added.

One of the challenges of producing the system, which limits its accuracy, is related to the mechanical design of the device and the movement of the screens for laser scanning. By creating a more accurate mechanical system, the accuracy of the device can be increased to below one micrometer.

According to vice presidency, the laser surface measuring device was produced in one of the technological companies financed and was supported by the Laser Photonics Headquarters, which is part of Vice Presidency for Science and Technology.
