“Control of epileptic seizures by deep brain stimulation in a closed circuit method and targeted drug delivery for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases with nanomedicines is one of the projects implemented in this center that have achieved acceptable results,” said Mohammad Javan, the head of the Brain and Cognition Research Center of Tarbiat Modarres University.

“Controlling the epileptic seizures by deep brain stimulation in a closed-circuit method, evaluation of the effects of olfactory mucosa stimulation on brain function, specially in patients who use artificial ventilation devices, and assessment of the long-term effects and intergenerational addiction are among the research projects that achieved good results by the researchers of this center,” he added.

Javan considered production of mesenchymal stem cells with added anti-inflammatory power and targeted drug delivery for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases with nanomedicines as another successful projects implemented by this center.

Epilepsy is a common condition that affects the brain and causes frequent seizures.

Seizures are bursts of electrical activity in the brain that temporarily affect how it works. They can cause a wide range of symptoms. Epilepsy can start at any age, but usually starts either in childhood or in people over 60.
