“The mission of our company was to reduce the movement limitations in lives of disabled people and injured veterans so that they can return to society and carry out their daily activities and do their sports. Given their flexibility, these blades enjoy a function very close to the ankle and can be a suitable alternative for the amputees,” Maqareh Abed told ANA.

He explained that the running blades produced in his company are used for amputees and can replace ankles.

Abed also underlined that Iran is the fourth country in the world with the know-how to produce carbon running blades.

“Unfortunately, there are people in Iran who have lost both their legs and now they can run 100 meters in just 12 seconds with these carbon blades. Also, the children who have lost their legs due to congenital problems can run and do their sports activities by using this product,” he said.

Blades are prosthetic lower limbs, used by amputee runners. Thanks to their curved shape and carbon fibre construction they are light and springy and allow runners to reach much higher speeds than traditional prosthetics.

Modern running blades are made from 100% carbon fibre. The layers of the carbon fibre are structured in a specific way to suit the category of style manufactured. The strength of the blade comes from multiple layers of carbon fibre; at least thirty and as many as ninety sheets of carbon fibre are fused together. The more layers used make the blade stronger. Each layer is thinner than human hair. The manufacturing is computer controlled to ensure that each foot made is to exact specification.
