Iranian Professor Becomes Member of World Academy of Sciences (TWAS)

TEHRAN (ANA)- Abdolreza Simchi, a distinguished Iranian professor at Tehran-based Sharif University of Technology has become a member of the TWAS World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).

In the recent meeting of the World Academy of Sciences for the Development of Science in Developing Countries (TWAS), Dr. Abdolreza Simchi, a professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Materials Science of Sharif University of Technology (SUT) became one of the 47 TWAS new members.

A graduate from SUT in material engineering, Simchi has been a distinguished researcher in his field of study and has gained many awards in national and international scientific events such as Khwarizmi International Award (KIA) in 2013, WIPO gold medal for Best Young Inventor in 2003, European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA) in 2003 for the development and patenting a new material called LaserTool for direct laser sintering of metals, Research Fellowship of Fraunhofer Institute, Germany in 2000 - 1999, George Foster Research Award for Lifetime Teaching and Research Achievements from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany in 2020.

The scientist in the field of nanomaterials has obtained 10 patents, written four books and 300 articles.

According to the SUT public relations deprtment, the name of Giorgio Parisi, the Italian physicist who won the Nobel laureate in 2021, is on the list of new members of the academy, about 40% of whom are identified as women, and thus the number of Nobe laureates who are members of the academy has reached 13. Currently, about 1,400 scientists from all over the world are TWAS members.

The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries, known worldwide by its acronym, TWAS, supports sustainable prosperity through research, education, policy and diplomacy. The Academy is based in Trieste, Italy.
