Iran Gains Technological Know-How for Production of Cryogenic Cold Box Heat Exchanger
The Iranian oil ministry’s experts managed to produce the high-tech component of the cold box by reliance on the country’s knowledge-based companies.
The equipment can be used in the ethane recycling unit of the South Pars Gas Complex (SPGC).
Cold box is among the most essential equipment of refineries and used for natural gas liquification, LNG cold utilization, ethylene production, methane production, air separation, boil-off gas (BOG) condensation, and CO-H2 separation.
The cold box made by the Iranian knowledge-based Hilavis Arina company is nearly 20% cheaper than the foreign model.
Cold boxes are self-supporting structures that protect cryogenic equipment like brazed plate-fin heat exchangers, core-in-drums, distillation columns, piping, valves and instrumentation.
The cold boxes’ steel casing acts as an envelope that offers easy installation of plate-fin heat exchangers and other equipment. But more importantly, they insulate and protect any kind of cryogenic equipment from external influences like rain, snow and wind.
