Iranian Researchers Produce Nano Catalytic Converters to Reduce Air Pollution

TEHRAN (ANA)- Iranian researchers at a knowledge-based company used nanotechnology to produce catalytic converters based on EU5 standard which plays a significant role in reducing air pollution.

“The catalyst turns the gases produced by cars into other gases that are almost harmless. This device helps to reduce air pollution. The researchers of our company managed to produce catalytic converters by using nanotechnology based on the EU5 standard,” Nasrin Ebrahimabadi, the deputy manager of the coating department of the knowledge-based company, told ANA.

Noting that the product has an input and an output, she said, “The gases produced by the car go through the catalyst inlet and turn into carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and water gases during a chemical process which are almost harmless.”

“The catalytic converters produced by our company can compete with foreign samples in terms of quality and price,” Ebrahimabadi added.

Earlier this year, a team of Iranian researchers had also developed a new three-way catalyst (TWC) for reducing pollution from vehicles and motorbikes.

Engineers of the Iranian company have achieved the formulation of three-way catalysts for motorcycles and vehicles, which can convert the exhaust emissions of these vehicles into harmless substances.

Laden Kamalzadeh, the director of research and development that Iranian factory told Iranian media that the three-way catalyst they produced in their company are used for both cars and motorcycles.

According to the researcher, the three-way catalysts convert hydrocarbon pollutants, carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) to harmless or less harmful gases such as carbon dioxide (CO).
