Iranian Company Produces Two Nanoparticles for Industries Using Minerals

TEHRAN (ANA)- Engineers at an Iranian technological company managed to produce two nanomaterials needed by the country's industries, using minerals.

The nanomaterials have been imported so far.

Due to a ban on the export of magnesite raw materials, a group of researchers at a technological company in Zahedan decided to process this mineral.

In this line, they succeeded in producing magnesium nanoparticles and magnesium carbonate with a purity of 98 percent.

In addition to a good profit margin, the two products are among the raw materials with high purity, which have wide applications in industries, while they also have the capacity to be exported.

A report by Technavio titled “Global Magnesium Oxide Nanoparticle Market” shows that the global market of magnesium oxide nanoparticles is experiencing significant growth due to the increase in demand in countries such as China, India, the US, and "EMEA" countries (consisting of 116 European, Middle Eastern, and African countries).

The report is based on information gathered from multiple channels like focus group discussions and online market surveys.

Amir-Nazar Jangjoo, a member of the board of directors of the company, said the products are used in steel, cosmetics, medicine, electronics, rubber, and paint industries.

The raw materials required for manufacturing the two products are provided by domestic suppliers, he said, adding that

“The ore is obtained from the mines of Sistan & Baluchestan province. After applying physical and chemical processes, they are transformed into nanoparticles," Jangjoo added.

He pointed out that magnesium oxide nanoparticles are used in electronics, catalysis, ceramics, and petrochemical industries.

The materials can also be used to make thermal insulators, fireproof fiber boards, and metal ceramics, he added.

“Magnesium oxide nanoparticles are also used as a fuel additive, cleaner, anti-flexible material, and corrosion inhibitor in the mentioned industries," he said.

Jangjoo remarked that the domestic market's need for nanoparticles was previously met only through imports.

“Currently we are the only producer of magnesium oxide with a high degree of purity in the country," he went on to say.

Magnesium oxide has a high consumption in the country. Some 10,000 tons of the products are consumed annually in domestic industries.
