Official: Iran Turned into Exporter of Medical Equipment
“In the past two decades, with the efforts of the knowledge-based and technological companies, we have been able to transform the country from in importer into an exporter of medical equipment. Now, the medical equipment made in Iran both meet the domestic needs and hit the markets in different Asian, European and Latin American countries,” said Amin Reza Khaleqian, the secretary of the Iran Health 2024 exhibition due to be held in Tehran on May 18 to 21.
He also stressed the production of electronic medical equipment, special operating room equipment, and equipment for special maintenance departments by the Iranian knowledge-based companies.
“Medical equipment is directly related to people's health and the Iran-made medical equipment is produced with high quality; this fact has facilitated the creation of export markets and now a significant number of hospitals in Turkey are using the Iran-made medical equipment,” Khaleqian said.
The head of Iran’s Union of Medical Equipment Manufacturers and Exporters said in January that medical equipment worth around $20 million is exported from the country to more than 60 states annually.
More than 70 percent of medical equipment and 100 percent of normal hospital beds are domestically made, Abdolreza Yaqoubzadeh said.
Also, over 95 percent of specific ICU and CCU beds and more than 85 percent of operating room medical equipment such as anesthesia machines and other equipment are manufactured with cutting-edge technology in the country, he added.
Yaqoubzadeh went on to say that the country's need for medical equipment production is three to four billion dollars per year, some one billion dollars of which is imported.
