Saeid Fooladi, managing director of the Iranian technological company that manufacture the light-weight electric wheelchairs said in an interview with Iranian media that their company has focused its activity on manufacturing light-weight electric wheelchairs that can be transported easily.

“The wheelchairs that are available in the market are heavy and the people who accompany the disabled usually find it difficult to transport them. For that, we have designed and developed a product that not only a light alloy is used in its manufacturing, but also it is designed in a way that can be easily folded and placed in the car trunk and even in vehicles that do not have a trunk,” Fooladi said.

“In designing the wheelchairs, we have used two engines and a lithium battery, which both help to reduce the weight of the product and improve its power, enabling it to travel to a farther distance,” the researcher said.

“There is a default battery inside this wheelchair power of which can be increased or decreased at the customer’s demand. With the battery inside the wheelchair, the user can move continuously for a distance of 8 kilometers in an hour and a half, and this amount can be increased up to 3 times. However, it affects the weight of the wheelchair,” Fooladi further explained.

Saying that they have focused on optimal weight and proper performance in the design of their product, he added, “Weight of this wheelchair is 25 kg, while the light models available in the market currently weigh 40 to 45 kg, and some even weigh up to 100 kg.”

He added that weight of the wheelchair matters a lot to those who accompany the people with disabilities, adding that the old models of the electric wheelchairs are really heavy to transport.

Fooladi further pointed out that they have already commercialized their electric wheelchair.
