Iranian Researcher Utilizing Steel Slag to Make Concrete
Mehran Iranpour, professor of Islamic Azad University-Lenjan branch,said that he has used steel slag instead of cement to make concrete.
He made the remarks in an interview with the ANA correspondent on the sidelines of the Age of Hope National Exhibition (Asreh Omid Event) held by Islamic Azad University in Tehran’s Grand Mossalla(Mosque) where he was attending in infrastructure, concrete laboratory and building materials section.
He further said that given growing industrial waste, using more natural resources is the best solution to face the challenges that industry and production section face.
He called his plan a sustainable use of waste in production, describing the obtained concrete from steel slags as very strong.
Explaining his research on the use of steel slags to replace cement in the producing concrete, he said, in his project the pebbles are replaced 100% with steel slags to increase the resistance of concrete.
He explained more that his project stands out among similar projects because it uses steel slags 100% instead of pebbles and cement.
He added that steel slags make the need for simultaneous partly use of lime sand unnecessary as well, which in turn prevents the destruction of the environment as well as the buying and transporting natural and broken sand.
It should be mentioned that the Islamic Azad University's "second step of revolution" under the title of Asreh Omid Event was held in Tehran's Mosalla from May 29 to June 01, 2022 to exhibit new achievements, equipments and products in the technological and innovation arenas in line with opening new windows towards strengthening the idea of creating ground for knowledge-based businesses at the 40th anniversary of establishment of the Islamic Azad University.
Asreh Omid Event gathered one thousand research and infrastructural groups and centers nationwide, one thousand new ideas and startups and also one thousand technological companies.
The Islamic Azad University as a private university system headquartered in Tehran is one of the largest comprehensive systems of universities, colleges, and community colleges in the world. The IAU which is the world's sixth-largest university was approved and ratified by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution in 1982.
