Iranian Scientists Build Small Machine to Convert Organic Waste into Stabilized Soil

TEHRAN (ANA)- Iranian researchers at a knowledge-based company succeeded in building small-scale machines to convert organic waste into stabilized soil.

“Organic waste has a lot of moisture; therefore, we tried to produce a device that takes the moisture of the waste and brings it to a standard level,” Mohammad Amin Vesal, the technical director of the knowledge-based company, told ANA.

“The innovative systems built in our knowledge-based company convert organic waste into stabilized soil, supplementary fuel or compost based on the type of process and waste,” he added.

Vesal stated that the waste conversion device is suitable for stabilizing organic materials, reducing the moisture of waste, increasing the thermal and nutritional value, and creating storage and transportation capabilities, adding, “This system is an efficient process of irradiation and a hybrid ozone system used to make products in less than one hour.”

Noting that the device is environmentally friendly and turns even more waste into organic soil, he said, “It greatly reduces the amount of wet waste produced and left in the environment, therefore it will prevent the production and growth of bacteria.”

Reducing the pollution in environment, the unpleasant smell of waste and the volume of waste and managing the produced leachate are among the goals of building a waste conversion device, Vesal said, adding, “The waste is crushed and the water is removed after entering the machine until its humidity reaches an acceptable level.”

In a relevant development in October, Iranian researchers at a knowledge-based company had also succeeded in producing asphalt by using waste materials like rubber crumb.

“We succeeded in producing permeable asphalt which is made of waste materials like crumb rubber that allows water to pass through its surface,” Alireza Haddadi, the managing-director of the knowledge-based company, told ANA.

“The asphalt is designed based on the type and capacity of the road and the available possibilities, and then the type of asphalt is ordered to the production plant,” he added.

Haddadi noted that permeable asphalts produced by using crumb rubber are very efficient in Northern regions of Iran due to heavy and continuous rainfall, adding, “Water does not remain on the asphalt surface and is directed to the sides of the road which increases the safety of the road surface.”

“Designing asphalt by using crumb rubber plays a highly important role in preserving natural resources and the environment,” he added.
