According to a report by the Iran’s Innovation and Prosperity Fund, an inauguration ceremony was held for the launching of the production line of knee and hip (knee and hip joints) prosthesis at the compound of knowledge-based firm, which was attended by the Iranian First Vice-President Mohammad Mokhber.

“The activity of this company in the field of producing different kinds of orthopedic implants started in 2005 and now we specialize in manufacturing various kinds of trauma implants ( for fractures caused by accidents),” Mohammad Kazemzadeh, the Deputy Managing Director of the knowledge-based company, said.

“About 17 years ago, when the company's activity started in Golestan province, the annual import of orthopedic products in the field of trauma implants was over $100 million. We (Iran) were actually 100% dependent on foreign products. But fortunately, during the 2 decades of activity of our knowledge-based company ane other domestic producers, today the amount of imports in the field of trauma implants production has reached almost below 1%. The amount of money allocated for the imports of these products has become less than $500,000,” Kazemzadeh said.

“Fortunately, in terms of the quality of manufactured products and the level of technology used, domestic knowledge-based companies have been able to meet the country's needs, and some companies, led by our company, have succeeded in exporting their trauma implant products to different countries around the world. Iranian companies that operate in this field have a very good market in the regional countries. Currently, the products of our knowledge-based company are registered in 15 countries of the world, and about 7 countries are already using this company’s products,” the knowledge-based company’s official also said.

Kazemzadeh pointed to the complexity of producing knee and hip joint prostheses, saying that their company has now broken the USA monopoly in doing the difficult job.

“We have used latest technology in designing and producing our products. Previously, two other domestic companies had tried to produce knee and hip joint prostheses, but because the design of their prostheses was old fashioned and it was a little difficult for surgeons to use them, they received a small share of country's market, about 3%. But in line with our goal and the permission we have received from the health ministry for the production of these products, we hope to meet at least 15% of the domestic need for knee and hip prostheses in the country by the end of 1403 (March 20, 2024). We also plan to meet something between 35-35% of the country’s total need for those products by the end of 1404 (March 20, 2025),” Kazemzadeh concluded.
