Iranian Knowledge-Based Company’s Tech Transfer Project Awarded by D-8

TEHRAN (ANA)- The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation awarded a technology transfer project developed by an Iranian knowledge-based company.

The D-8 gave its technology transfer project award jointly to an Iranian knowledge-based company producing machinery and nanofibers and a Malaysian company.

The competition was held among the companies of eight developing Islamic countries known as D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation in Ankara.

On the sidelines of the competition, Head of the Iran Technology Development Center Milad Sardkhanlou referred to the creation of a technology exchange network with the aim of developing technological cooperation between eight Islamic countries, and stated that the secretariat of this network was established in Pardis Technology Park of Iran and its mission is to collect and review the technological plans of Islamic countries.

He noted that the purpose of bestowing the award for the best technology transfer plan is to develop technological cooperation between the D-8 countries and support the private knowledge-based companies.

Recently, Iran announced that 7,735 companies which have received knowledge-based licenses based on three criteria of ‘production of hi-tech products’, ‘superiority in production’ and ‘production or provision of services based on research and development (R&D)’ are active across the country.

Figures provided by the Center for Knowledge-Based Companies and Institutions of the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy showed that at present 381 type one start-up companies, 1,925 type two start-up companies, 706 type one production companies, 3,896 type two production companies, 390 type three or potential knowledge-based production companies, and 437 type three or potential knowledge-based start-up companies exist in the country.

Knowledge-based companies in Iran are specially active in the technological fields of ‘biotechnology, agriculture and food industries’, ‘advanced drugs and products in the field of diagnosis and treatment’, ‘advanced materials and products based on chemical technologies’, ‘advanced machinery and equipment’, ‘tools, medical supplies and equipment’, ‘electricity and electronics, photonics, telecommunications’, ‘information technology and computer software’, ‘commercialization services’ and ‘cultural, creative, humanities industries’ and present different products and services to the society and industries.

Among these 7,735 knowledge-based companies active in Iran, most firms are active in areas of ‘electrical and electronic hardware, laser and photonics’, ‘information and communication technology and computer software’ and ‘advanced machinery and equipment’ and the number of companies active in ‘cultural, creative industries, humanities’ and ‘commercialization services’ are less than other firms.
