“Energy saving is the main pillar of economic development and sustainability while facing the global energy crises,” Majid Mohammadi, the CEO of Iran’s Innovation and Smartization Center, told ANA.

“In line with indigenization of the products and equipment used in the country, specially in the field of water saving, the smart mechanical water meters have been produced by the Iranian researchers via using internal capacities,” he added.

“The product which enjoys remote reading capability can in the meantime show automatically volumetric consumption and costs as well as the customer’s consumption information for the past ten years. To do so, an optical port with the battery life warranty of five years has been utilized,” the official added.

Mohammadi said that the water meter is capable of warning water leakage and remotely turning on and off water from the tap, noting that the device has been manufactured under the harshest US sanctions against Iran and has been approved by the Energy Ministry of Iran.

“The smart meter automatically alarms the customers to manage their consumption to prevent freshwater waste and can also concurrently alerts them of the high amount of consumption and costs,” he added.

Mohammadi necessitated the use of smart meters in the industrial and agricultural sectors and residential units, and said, “In areas where these water meters are used, a consumer peak pattern has been created and farmers can install these types of water meters at the entrance of the water wells to easily control the amount of water consumption.”

It is worth to say that smart water meters are devices that measure and communicate water usage from consumer to provider to facilitate water management and proper billing. These meters are equipped with an electronic computing unit, or ECU, that facilitates communication between the meter and the supplier.

It should not be forgotten that Iran has shown steadfast resolve to continue progress despite the toughest sanctions ever imposed by the US and its allies on the nation to block Tehran’s access to the equipment and technology needed for the country’s development.
