Iran Unveils 2 Knowledge-Based Strategic Products in Steel, Mining Industries

TEHRAN (ANA)- Two knowledge-based strategic products in the steel and mining industries were unveiled in the presence of Head of the Innovation and Prosperity Fund of Iran Mohammad Sadeq Khayyatian.

Khayyatian unveiled ‘zirconia tundish nozzle’ and ‘industrial metal detector (IB-metal detector)’ during his visit of the achievements of 21 Iranian knowledge-based companies at the 20th International Metallurgy Exhibition in Tehran.

Tundish nozzles are refractories that are placed in the bottom of the tundish (middle plate) and guide the molten flow from the tundish to the casting mold. This product is widely used in steel and foundry industries.

“Parts made of zirconia are used in various industries, specially steel, foundry, and medicine due to their shock resistance, stress resistance, and high temperature tolerance. For example, in the field of medicine, these parts are used to make implant plates and in the steel industry to make nozzles for passing melt,” said Ehsan Meshkati, the managing director of the knowledge-based company.

The second unveiled product was ‘industrial metal detector (IB-metal detector)’ which is used in mining and steel industries, and it directly increases productivity and improves the quality of the final product by detecting metal waste in the production lines of various industries.

In a relevant development in February, a group of engineers from a startup company had also manufactured a nozzle based on nanotechnology which reduces water consumption up to 98%.

“We designed and produced a system that is installed as a nozzle on all types of faucets, and the nozzle is 98% effective in reducing water consumption,” said Hossein Alinejad, a researcher of the project.

He noted that in order to reduce water consumption, the nozzle creates two outflows and the reduction of water consumption takes place between these two nozzle flows.

Alinejad said that the ordinary nozzles are clogged after a while but hydrophobic coatings based on nanotechnology are used in two parts of this nozzle to settle the problem of clogging.

“All raw materials and equipment needed to produce this nozzle are indigenized,” he underlined.
