Iranian Specialists Manufacture Airend for Screw Compressors

TEHRAN (ANA)- Iranian researchers at Islamic Azad University managed to design and develop the airend part of screw compressors for the first time in the country.

“This product is widely used in various industries, including the automotive industry, oil and gas industries (extraction and transfer of related fluids), medical field, and heavy and light industries, etc.,” Salar Mousazad, a chemical engineering student at Islamic Azad University’s Tabriz branch, told ANA.

Elaborating on advantages of the product compared to piston pumps, he said, “Piston pumps enjoy the capability to produce and transfer up to 10 times more of fluid, while screw compressors are four times stronger than the piston pumps.”

“These pumps are significantly used in heavy oil and gas industries and they produce power in very large volumes and very high powers (about 700 horsepower),” Mousazad said, adding  that other advantages of these pumps include very low noise and inertia compared to other compressors, easy access and low price compared to foreign models.

Earlier in September, Iranian researchers at a knowledge-based company had also succeeded in producing a centrifugal compressor which has been able to attract customers in the Russian and Belarussian industrial markets.

The centrifugal compressors produced by the Iranian knowledge-based company enjoy a power of 450 kW to 1 MW which can produce pressures of 5.5 to 13 bar, and their air intake capacity ranges from 3,000 to 10,000 cubic meters per hour.

Another feature of the product compressors is their possibility to compress air to the desired pressure in a wide flow range, in a way that the ‘Turn Down’ ratio for the compressors is between 20% and 35%.

Also, the company has supplied ‘single-shaft centrifuge’ to many employers in petrochemical, refinery, chemical, cement, steel and transportation industries.

“The centrifugal compressors produced by our company are both more complex in construction, and in many ways, enjoy higher efficiency and a lighter foundation than the ‘single-shaft’ centrifugal compressors which are similar models, and at the same time require lower maintenance and repairs,” said Nima Sejdeh, the managing director of the knowledge-based firm.

He added that the company is in talks with the Russian and Belarussian industrialists to export the compressors to the two countries.
