Given the high importance of energy in various sectors of oil and gas industries, the use of thermal insulators is a requirement.

Energy is the most important factor in most chemical reactions and refinery operations; therefore, the use of thermal insulation on furnaces, reactors and oil and gas transmission lines has become an integral part in this industry.

Due to their anti-moisture properties, most insulators used in this industry cause problems, including subsurface corrosion and low mechanical resistance which reduce the insulators’ lifespan.

To solve these problems, an Iranian start-up succeeded in production of nano-based insulation with high resistance to moisture and subsurface corrosion.

The Iran-made nano insulators are proper options for the oil and gas industry, including construction of oil, gas and petrochemical structures, fixed and mobile cold storages used in military industries and the aerospace industry thanks to their high mechanical and chemical resistance, long lifespan and low maintenance cost.

The technical specifications of these insulators include high mechanical and thermal resistance, high flexibility, ease of installation and operation, long life, capability of production in different thicknesses and good performance in a wide temperature range.

The insulation, or more correctly thermal insulation, is a material or system that has the property of resisting the transfer of heat or sound. Insulation plays a major role in conserving the heat energy of a refinery or process plant.

A medium-sized oil refinery contains 465 miles of insulated piping and 1.8 million square feet of insulated equipment.

Low thermal conductivity and high thermal resistance are the two most desirable properties expected from thermal insulation material.
