“This type of aircraft has a complicated design since it has to land and take off both on land and water but our company put the production of this type of aircraft on its agenda due to the needs of certain organizations in the country,” said Ya’qoub Entesari, the managing director of the knowledge-based company.

Noting that Iran’s climate and the existence of the sea in the Northern and Southern parts of the country necessitate the existence of such planes, he said, “These types of planes are used in sea voyages, tourism industry, emergency and sea rescue operations, etc.”

Entesari explained that the research-based prototype of the amphibious aircraft was completed 8 years ago, saying, “After the approval of operator, the production of this type of aircraft started and now it is in the stage of obtaining certification.”

Iran's civil aviation chief announced in December that the country had developed its first passenger aircraft manufacturing factory.

Mohammad Mohammadi Bakhsh, head of Iran's Civil Aviation Organization, made the remarks at a press conference held in Tehran on the sidelines of the seventh edition of the International Exhibition of Transportation, Logistics, and Related Industries.

"Today, we can say that the Islamic Republic is in possession of a [passenger] plane manufacturing factory," he said.

Mohammadi Bakhsh said the factory was hosting the manufacturing process of the country's first passenger aircraft, which he named Simorgh.
