According to a report by the public relations department of Iran's Power Generation, Distribution, and Transmission Company (known as TAVANIR in Iran) the development of samll-scale generators came in line with instructions for the development of such generators which were put on the agenda of companies under the Enery Ministry in 2007.

Small-scale generators, due to their proximity to the place of consumption, not only supply electricity with higher efficiency than other thermal power plants, they also bring advantages such as reducing losses and improving power quality.

Most of these power plants have been put into operation with the government’s incentive to direct the private sector to invest in electricity production operations and through the conclusion of long-term guaranteed electricity purchase contracts with provincial power companies, in a way that at their apex last summer, they had a maximum production capacity of 1,200 MW.
