Official: 11 Groups of Iranian Researchers Visit Synchrotron Radiation Facilities in 4 Countries

TEHRAN (ANA)- Amir Hossein Mirabadi, the Head of the Center for International Science and Technology Interactions at the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, said that as many as 11 Iranian research groups visited synchrotron radiation facilities in 4 countries as part of a support program.

“Since 2016, the Center for International Science and Technology Interactions in cooperation with Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences, has implemented a program to support sending of Iranian users to the international synchrotron radiation laboratories in the world by sending a group of researchers from the country to the ALBA synchrotron radiation laboratory located in Spain,” Mirabadi said.

He stated that the program of dispatching teams of researchers to synchrotron laboratories was suspended since 2019 due to the spread of Covid-19 in the world. "However, when the Covid-19 pandemic was over, the program to support the sending of Iranian users to international synchrotron radiation laboratories in the world was resumed in 2022 by the Scientific Interaction center and subsequently, 11 groups of Iranian researchers benefited from this support and were able to participate in the synchrotron facilities of France's SOLEIL, Jordan's SESAME, Italy's ELETTRA and Switzerland's CERN,” he added.

"The program to support Iranian users in top synchrotron laboratories" is implemented with the aim of creating a support network for researchers and industries in the country to enable them to have access to the top synchrotron laboratories and gain experiences at the international level with the support of the Center for International Science and Technology Interactions, the head of the center continued.

Mirabadi went on to explain that in the support program, a part of the travel cost (flight tickets, accommodation, visa,...) and other costs of conducting experiments (preparation of samples, etc.) will be paid by the Center for researchers who have successfully obtained acceptance to conduct experiments in one of the world's synchrotron laboratories.

“This way, the access of researchers, professors, students and industries of the country to perform practical and advanced tests in the best and most up-to-date laboratories in the world will be facilitated, the official continued to say, adding, “This program has been approved in continuation of ‘Iran User Program of ALBA laboratory’. The program to support Iranian users in synchrotron laboratories is jointly implemented by the Vice Presidency’s Center for International Science and Technology Interactions and Iranian Light Source Facility.

A synchrotron is a type of circular particle accelerator. It works by accelerating charged particles (electrons) through sequences of magnets until they reach almost the speed of light. These fast-moving electrons produce very bright light, called synchrotron light.
