Fuel cells work like batteries, but they do not run down or need recharging. They produce electricity and heat as long as fuel is supplied. A fuel cell consists of two electrodes—a negative electrode (or anode) and a positive electrode (or cathode)—sandwiched around an electrolyte.

“In this hydrogen-oxygen fuel cell, hydrogen enters the device from one side and oxygen enters the device from the other side, and the result of the chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen produces DC electrical power,” Amirali Amirkhalili, the managing director of a knowledge-based company in Iran that is operating in the field of clean and renewable energy told ANA correspondent in an interview.

He touched upon the issue of environmental pollution caused by using fossil-fuel based batteries and attached a great importance to producing power and fuel through clean energy in nowadays world.

“From 2030 to 2050, according to the current global plan, the volume of pollutants should be brought down to zero,” the technologist said.

Amirkhalili further called for more serious investment in renewable energy to save the country a lot of money that could be spent on non-renewable energies in the future.

He further stated that the fuel cell produced in their company has many superiorities over its domestic and foreign equivalents, stressing, “The most important feature of this fuel cell is its multi-cell nature, meaning that anode, cathode, anode, cathode cells are placed together in series.”

The managing director of the knowledge-based company that is based on the campus of Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) in Tehran, added that DC electrical power has no frequency and it has a constant potential (Voltage).

The price of domestically-made fuel cell devices is one fifth of similar foreign equivalents, the technologist further pointed out about the reasonable prices of locally-produced fuel cell devices.
