Iran-Made Nano Product Determines Appropriate Antibiotic to Treat Infections
The antibiogram disc or tablet produced by the company is prepared in colored tubes based on the family of antibiotics and is used for antibiogram or drug sensitivity tests. Higher quality, faster and more accurate results and ease of use are some advantages of the product, the information center of the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy reported.
The antibiogram test is used to determine which antibiotic is effective on bacteria, and blood, feces, urine, and sputum are among the samples that are usually subjected to an antibiogram test to prescribe the effective drug.
A portion of the sample is removed and cultured in the antibiogram culture medium, then the antibiogram discs are placed on the culture medium and the result is checked after 24 to 48 hours.
This company has also produced an antibiograph device for performing the test which works independently without any need to a computer.
The overuse of antibiotics — specially taking antibiotics when they're not the correct treatment — promotes antibiotic resistance.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about one-third of antibiotic use in people is not needed nor appropriate. Antibiotics treat infections caused by bacteria.
