New Method Designed by Iranian Specialists to Improve Performance of Sliding Foundations

TEHRAN (ANA)- The head of a technological company in Iran said that the academic experts have presented an initiative to improve the performance of sliding foundations in the special conditions of Iran to protect the atmospheric and soil conditions.

Mohammad Reza Qorbani Param, the manager of Arman Sazeh Sazan technological company, said that in addition to providing effective communication between ‘industry and university’, the technological company seeks to indigenize construction technologies with the creativity and innovation of Iranian experts and develop sliding foundations in Iran.

“Conducting research and field tests on the optimal use of sliding foundations in Iran's special conditions, including local soils and weather conditions, providing expert advice to construction companies and organizations for the optimal use of sliding foundations in the design and implementation of structures, designing and developing new technologies for improving the performance and efficiency of sliding foundations in Iran's special conditions and publishing scientific articles and reports about the use of sliding foundations in buildings and civil structures in Iran's conditions are among our company’s measures,” he added.

In a relevant development in April, the helical pile construction technology was indigenized in Iran thanks to the efforts of specialists of a technological firm stationed at Azadi Innovation Factory.

“Helical pile is a well-known technology in the world and countries like the US and Germany have specific guidelines and regulations for this type of foundation and they have been working on this technology for years,” said Behnam Bidar, the managing director of the company.

He explained that this type of foundation is in the form of a screw and made of steel with a galvanized coating, adding that it has various uses in construction of different buildings like villas and greenhouses, and in manufacturing energy production equipment like solar panels and power transmission towers.

“In this company, we succeeded in production of this foundation which is a type of screw foundation made of metal.

It consists of a tubular shaft with one or more spiral metal plates that transmits the tensile or compressive force of the structure to the ground through the shaft and spiral plates.”

A helical pile is a deep foundation solution suitable for supporting light and heavy structures. They are engineered to support compressive loads less than 1kN (225 lb) or in excess of 5,000kN (1.125 million lb) – from a small landing to a 32 story tower, helical piles are an option. Another common name for helical piles are “screw piles”.
